TRANSPORTATION:
  • Airport: Asheville airport is a good option or can fly to Charlotte, NC airport and drive in
  • Uber/Lyft: good availability for both apps
  • RENTAL CAR: HIGHLY RECOMMEND
    • Be aware that most of the downtown hotels will charge for parking.
    • Consider using AutoSlash or Costco Car Rentals in order to get cheaper rates on rental cars
    • Parking in downtown: look for Public Parking Garages -it's free for the first hour, $2 every hour to a max of $20

HOTEL: Downtown or anywhere near downtown is OK.

PAYMENT METHODS:
  • Credit Card. We did not use any cash.

WHAT TO BRING:
  • Hiking Boots if going on moderate/hard hikes
  • Jacket/long sleeve clothing - it tends to get cool in the evenings.
  • Light rain jacket

RANDOM TIPS:
  • When hiking, download the ALL TRAILS app and follow the hikes through the app to make sure you don't get lost.
  • Download google maps off line while driving along the Blue Ridge Parkway highway because sometimes you lose cell phone signal
  • Weather: It can randomly be foggy or start lightly raining despite nothing on the weather forecast. Be prepared with a light rain jacket.
  • Go in the fall!!! It does get very busy during this time; however, it's beautiful!

VEGETARIAN/VEGAN FOOD:
  • If planning on eating at any fine dining restaurants, must make a reservation at least a week in advance!!
  • Refer to the Asheville, NC itinerary for more details about what to get at each restaurant
  • Our favorite places we ate at: Biscuit Head, Hole Donuts, French Broad Chocolate, and Old Europe Desserts

White Duck Tacos
Plant Restaurant
Chai Pani

Hole Donuts

Biscuit Head

OUR
 RECOMMENDATIONS:

  • 1) Make sure and go in the fall to get the full experience
  • 2) Definitely drive the Blue Ridge Parkway Highway!! Craggy Gardens, Balsam Knob and Graveyard fields hikes were all great! Try to wake up early and catch sunrise at one of the overlooks.
  • 3) Highly recommend visiting Downtown Asheville
  • 4) Do the quick hike at the Asheville Botanical Gardens - it's definitely not the best botanical gardens, but its an easy hike and pretty in the fall
  • 5) Drive through and visit the River Arts District - must visit the Marquee building
  • 5) We could have spent another full day in Asheville. If we had more time, we would have checked out Grove Park Inn, done an Asheville free walking tour and spent an entire day at the Biltmore estate/village ($100+)
