ITINERARY: FOR HI RESOLUTION ITINERARY AND LINKS TO TOURS WE TOOK CLICK HERE: Itinerary - Puerto Rico Jan 2023
PHOTOS: See Photos Here: Instagram - Puerto Rico
TRANSPORTATION:
- UBER: download Uber App - easy to use Uber in the major city areas
- RENTAL CAR: Rental car is needed if planning to leave Condado/Downtown San Juan area
- Rent a rental car in downtown vs. the airport. It's much cheaper to get a rental car in downtown than the airport. We ubered from the airport to the car rental place in downtown.
- Can use (1) Costco Car Rental (2) Autoslash.com
HOTEL: Stay in Condado Neighborhood
PAYMENT METHODS:
- Cash or Credit card - Personal preference. Everything is in US dollars
WHAT TO BRING:
- Sunscreen is a MUST
- Watershoes - these are great if planning to jump into the water during the hikes.
- Highly recommend to buy water shoes with good soles
- Waterproof cell phone holder - if planning to go into the water during hikes
- Rain jacket/Umbrella as needed
- No Converter or Passport needed, Drivers License is OK
LANGUAGE: Able to use English throughout the island
RANDOM TIPS:
- There are islands (Culebra & Vieques) off of Puerto Rico that can be reached by Ferry or plane. We decided to hold off on the islands; however, the best bioluminescent bay is found there
- If renting a car, we stocked up on items at Walmart
VEGETARIAN/VEGAN FOOD:
- Vegetarian/vegan: Easy to find vegetarian/vegan places to eat near San Juan. Outside the city, it was more difficult
- Our best meal was the pizza from Arte Sano Food Truck
- Best dessert was from Senor Paleta - the chocolate fudge popsicle! Yum!
- Water is safe to drink from the tap
- Local foods to try: Vegan Mofongo, Coconut Candy - By Dulzura Borincana (we bought from Walmart)
PUERTO RICO RECOMMENDATIONS:
- 1) Spend no more than half a day in Old San Juan
- 2) Definitely go to El Yunque Rainforest - don't forget to make reservations!
- 3) Las Paylas - natural water slide
- 4) Go Kayaking in a bioluminescent bay - try to go when there's no moon.
- It is tough for kayaking, so make sure in shape. There are also boats that go out instead
- 5) Explore Cuevas del Indio
- Don't Pay! park at KM 8.2 and walk across the street
- 6) Visit Cascada Gozalandia - beautiful waterfalls
- 7) If have enough time, (we did not) - take the ferry or fly to Vieques/Culebra Island
