Charleston, SC Recommendations:
TRANSPORTATION:
- Rental Car: Highly Recommend if flying in - especially if covering both cities
- Most downtown hotels will charge for parking; hotels with free parking tend to be out in the suburbs
- Consider using AutoSlash or Costco Car Rentals (membership required) in order to get cheaper rates on rental cars
- Flight: The Savannah airport is very easy to access and modern
- Taxi/Rideshare: Uber/Lyft has good availability in both cities
- Parking: Will have to pay for street/lot parking in downtown at pay meters
HOTEL: Stay in downtown in both cities. The downtown area is very walkable for both cities.
WHAT TO BRING:
- Sunscreen if planning on being outdoors (especially in summer as the weather warms)
RANDOM TIPS:
- These are very walkable cities and overall easy to navigate.
- When to Visit/Weather: Recommend the fall season. We went in winter and it was very cold at times.
- If you're ambitious, you can combine both of these cities in 3-4 days. They're relatively close by to each other as well (about 2 hours driving).
- Charleston preserved area is very romantic to walk through, especially at night!
VEGETARIAN/VEGAN FOOD:
Savannah, GA Recommendations:
- Leopold Ice Cream - is a must; we had it multiple times and it was some of the best we've ever had.
- The tacos at Bull Street Taco were on point. We loved the Red Chile Tempura Cauliflower one.
- Out of our travels, this was not the most vegan/vegetarian friendly city out there.

TOP THINGS TO DO:
Savannah, GA Recommendations:
- Waterfront - Walk along the coastline. It is a pleasant walk and there are some nice picturesque views.
- Check out Colonial Park Cemetery in Savannah. Another great spot for the history aficionados as you will see the burial grounds for many colonial greats.
- Chippewa Square - For all the Forrest Gump fans out there!
- Historic River Street - The original port of Savannah and at one time the leading exporter of cotton in the world.
VEGETARIAN/VEGAN FOOD: Charleston, SC Recommendations:
- So much better than Savannah for vegan/vegetarian options!
- Brown Dog Deli - A few vegetarian options but most of their menu uses Impossible Meat so keep that in mind. We tried the plant load sandwich which was average.
- Neon Tiger - Really cool spot for dinner with a hipster vibe. We loved the supreme pizza and the Rueben. Both were excellent.
- Jack of Cups Saloon - Its a little out of the way but if you are going to Folly Island, this is a great spot to stop for lunch close to the beach.
TOP THINGS TO DO:
- Fort Sumter: Take the tour to Fort Sumter. Its a great ferry ride into history and you get to see some great Civil War History.
- Sullivan's Island Beach and Lighthouse - Unfortunately, visitors are not allowed to go into the lighthouse, but the grounds around it are open as are the beaches.
- Charleston City Market - One of the larger markets we've been too; this artisan market stretches multiple streets and has many artisan and food vendors.
- Old Slave Mart Museum - a very powerful museum about the history of slavery and the slave trade.
- Folly Island - A little bit of a drive out but worth the trip if you're looking for a beach atmosphere!
- Waterfront Park - take an iconic picture with the Pineapple Fountain (Symbol of wealth and hospitality)
